About Our Worship

Worship at St. Stephen’s follows the pattern of the Book of Common Prayer of The Episcopal Church. Prayer may include kneeling, and hymns are sung throughout the service. Participation is welcome in whatever way feels most comfortable, whether by bowing, standing, praying, making the sign of the cross, or simply sitting quietly. St. Stephen’s offers a loving place to encounter God.

The first portion of the service includes hymns and readings from the Old Testament, Psalms, New Testament and Gospel. Midway through the service comes the exchange of the Peace. The officiant says, “The peace of the Lord be always with you,” and the congregation responds, “And also with you.” At that point, members of the congregation greet one another, often by shaking hands or sharing a hug. After a few minutes, the service continues with the offering and communion.

There are two main parking areas, one close to the church entrance and the other close to Broce Hall ​(our parish hall). A few spaces are located near Delaware around the church office.
