Ministries and Ministry Teams

ACOLYTES
We encourage children and youth to serve as acolytes, called by God, and taught to serve as candlelighters and bearers of the cross during worship, understanding the importance of those acts and symbols to our faith.
Altar Flowers

Each Sunday, members of this team divide our altar flowers into smaller arrangements and deliver them to the sick and homebound members and friends of our congregation.
Angels on assignment/LAY PASTORAL CARE TEAM
These laypeople are trained and commissioned for pastoral care of our members, serving as Christ's hands and feet to bring the love of St. Stephen's out to those in need of it.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
This ministry crafts comforting shawls which we then bless with prayer and send out to warm the shoulders and laps of the ill and homebound.

CHORAL AND WORSHIP MUSIC
Sally Wilson serves us as organist. Sara McElroy serves as our choir director, and our choir sings often for special liturgies and events.
DAUGHTERS OF THE KING
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our vision as Daughters of the King is to know Jesus Christ, to make Him known to others, and to become reflections of God’s love throughout the world.

EUCHARISTIC LAY MINISTERS
Our Lay Eucharistic Ministers - persons who are licensed by the bishop to administer the elements - assist our clergy each Sunday in observing Holy Eucharist.
HOME COMMUNION
A special group of people take Holy Communion to the sick and homebound.
OASIS (OLDER ADULTS SHARING IN SERVICE)
The OASIS at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church provides a structured time of service and fellowship for older adults who are socially isolated due to cognitive or physical frailties. The sustained respite program affords family caregivers four hours of free time while giving their loved one an opportunity to participate in stimulating and productive activities in a loving environment. The OASIS allows volunteers to share their talents and gifts while participating in all program activities. Volunteers find the time both stimulating and rewarding.

At the OASIS you will participate in community service projects, exercise, music, puzzles, devotions, games, intergenerational fellowship, and cognitive stimulation. Two staff members and loving volunteers oversee the program.

The OASIS meets every Monday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. It is a shared, interfaith ministry with St. James UMC and Trinity UMC, both of Beaumont.

For more info about OASIS or related volunteer opportunities, please call Melanie Hall at 409.892.8121 ext. 115.
