Pentecost is one of the principal feasts of our church year. It commemorates the coming of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1) shortly after Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascension. The Pentecost event is the fulfillment of a promise Jesus gave when he said we would not be left alone; that God would send an advocate to be with us. Given life by the Holy Spirit on this day, the followers of Christ were drawn together to build up the body of Christ, the Church. So on this day, we celebrate both the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the church. Put on your red and join with the body of Christ to receive the Holy Eucharist of the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
